The Unlucky Monkey- Bedtime Story

Posted in: Bedtime Stories

Monie, a typically unlucky monkey, had long been known for the countless misfortunes that seemed to follow him everywhere. Whether he missed a tree branch while swinging or stumbled into a river when quenching his thirst, disaster was never far behind. Monie always blamed the world around him, believing that fate had given him an unfair hand. But what if there was more to this unlucky monkey’s fate than sheer bad luck? Could Monie discover that his fortune was in his own hands?

The Unlucky Monkey- Bedtime Story

The Misfortunes of Monie

Monie’s days were often filled with accidents. While swinging from tree to tree, it wasn’t uncommon for him to miss his target and crash to the ground. And if he needed water, the unlucky monkey would inevitably trip and tumble into the river before he could take a sip.

Every time something went wrong, Monie felt defeated. He blamed the trees for not being steady enough or the riverbanks for being too slippery. As these events piled up, Monie became a bitter, angry monkey. He convinced himself that the world was out to get him, and his bad luck was a permanent fixture in his life.

One morning, hunger drove Monie out of his treehouse in search of food. It wasn’t long before he stumbled upon a large fruit farm, and to his surprise, there was a big basket of ripe fruit left unattended. Monie saw this as his chance to steal a few pieces and finally catch a break. But his bad luck had other plans.

The Unfortunate Fruit Theft

Monie eyed the fruit eagerly, scanning the area for any signs of movement. The coast seemed clear, and he grinned as he prepared to climb over the wooden fence. But as Monie attempted his sneaky escape, his clumsy nature struck again. With a loud “thud,” he hit the ground.

The noise alerted the farm’s owner, a rabbit named Rollie, who rushed to the scene. Rollie wasted no time in sounding the alarm, and soon, the farm animals gathered to defend their precious fruit. Chickens dashed out of their coops, ducks waddled out of the pond, and a tiny mouse scurried into the farmhouse for safety.

Rollie, armed with a stick, charged after Monie. “If you want food, you need to work for it! You can’t just steal it!” Rollie yelled. Terrified, Monie bolted, managing to escape, but not without the farm animals shouting after him, “Don’t come back, or you won’t be so lucky next time!”

A Close Escape

Monie barely made it back to his treehouse, furious at his bad luck. He had been so close to grabbing some fruit, only to be chased away empty-handed. Exhausted and frustrated, Monie collapsed into his bed, his mind racing with thoughts of the delicious fruit he almost tasted. His stomach growled, and his mouth watered, but there was nothing he could do.

Just as Monie began to drift off, a sweet, sugary scent wafted through the air. His nose twitched, and he sat up, inhaling deeply. “Cookies! Someone is baking cookies!” Monie thought excitedly. Following the scent, Monie was led to a small yellow house with a chimney puffing out vanilla-scented smoke.

The Cookie Incident

The Cookie Incident

Peeking through the window, Monie spotted a lamb busily baking cookies. The cookies had just come out of the oven and were cooling on the windowsill. The unlucky monkey couldn’t resist. With a sly grin, he reached for a cookie. But as soon as his fingers touched the hot treat, Monie let out a loud yelp. “Too hot!” he cried.

The noise startled the lamb, who generously offered Monie a cookie out of kindness. But Monie, thinking he was about to be caught, ran away as fast as he could. He tripped and fell into a muddy puddle, adding to his string of bad luck.

Covered in mud and bruised from his fall, Monie shouted, “Why does everything always go wrong for me?!” It wasn’t just the hunger that bothered him now; it was the constant misfortune. Feeling defeated, Monie dragged himself back home.

A Change of Heart

Back in his bed, Monie’s mind swirled with thoughts of all the bad things that had happened to him. "I can’t keep living like this,” he thought. “I have to change my luck!" Determined, Monie decided it was time to take control of his fate.

Monie had heard whispers of a wise red mandrake who lived deep in the forest. The mandrake was said to solve people’s problems and even improve their luck. Though skeptical, Monie figured he had nothing left to lose. So, the next morning, he set out to find the mandrake.

The Wise Red Mandrake

When Monie arrived at the mandrake’s dwelling, the wise plant took one look at him and asked, “When was the last time you cleaned your home?”

Confused by the question, Monie replied, “I rarely clean it. It’s a mess.”

“And have you been constantly anxious and pessimistic?” the mandrake continued.

“Well, yes,” Monie admitted. “I’m always worried someone will catch me when I try to take things that don’t belong to me.”

The mandrake nodded and offered some advice. “First, you must clean your home. Then, work for your food instead of stealing. I assure you, your luck will change!”

A New Approach to Life

Monie thought about the mandrake’s words. Maybe his bad luck wasn’t entirely out of his control. Determined to test the advice, Monie returned home and immediately began cleaning. His house had been cluttered and dirty for so long that it took him an entire day to scrub it clean.

The next morning, Monie decided to visit the fruit farm again—not to steal, but to apologize. To his surprise, the animals accepted his apology. When Monie offered to help around the farm in exchange for food, they gladly agreed.

The Change in Monie’s Luck

As Monie settled into his new routine of hard work and kindness, he began to notice changes. His clumsiness seemed to disappear. He no longer missed branches while swinging from tree to tree, and his anxiety slowly faded. For the first time in his life, Monie felt like his luck had turned.

Feeling grateful, Monie returned to the mandrake to express his thanks. “Wise mandrake, thank you for changing my luck! But I’m curious—how did you do it?”

The mandrake chuckled. “I didn’t change your luck. You did! Your dirty, greasy hands were slipping off the branches, and your constant anxiety made you careless. Once you took care of those things, you naturally became less prone to mistakes!”

The Realization

Monie finally understood. His bad luck had been tied to his mindset and actions all along. While luck can play a role in life, Monie realized that a clear mind and responsible behavior could prevent many mistakes. From that day on, Monie embraced his newfound outlook, knowing that true change came from within.
